Library Media Center

St. Helen’s Library Media Center is located in the Main Building.  Created from what were previously two classrooms, the media center houses over 12,000 books and magazines for student and teacher use.  A variety of displays and programs reinforce skills lessons and promote reading.

All classes visit the library weekly for a skills lesson or story time.  Skills taught are based on Ohio Department of Education Library Guidelines and a NEW Clevertouch (in March 2022) is available to facilitate instruction.  Grades K-8 may check out books.  Classes make additional visits to the library as needed.  The local public library support further enhances library programming.

The computerized circulation system was upgraded to Follett Destiny in 2013 allowing 24/7 access to the card catalog. Students and staff can browse the catalog and place holds from home as well as school.  We are one of the founding members of the Dayton Deanery Libraries Consortium.  As members of the consortium, time spent on cataloging has decreased, cataloging records have improved, and most importantly, our students now have access to over 1600 eBooks.

The library is equipped with a Clevertouch interactive board and a full class set of Chromebooks. Students can use the Chromebooks to develop research skills, browse the card catalog or read eBooks.
