PTO
The PTO provides many wonderful activities, services, and funds that benefit every child in our school. Being involved in the PTO allows you to participate and make a difference in your child’s education. In addition, it is a great way to meet others. It is also an opportunity to let you know what is going on in our school, whether it is through volunteering, fundraisers, socials, or purchasing new classroom or school equipment.

The PTO functions only with the support and participation of everyone at St. Helen School. The meeting schedule will be announced at the beginning of each school year. We look forward to seeing you at the PTO meetings and helping to increase your involvement in your child’s education and school community.
Committees and Activities
The following is a list of committees and activities our PTO offers throughout the school year.

BABY SITTING COURSE
Students who are 11 years or older on the date of the class are welcome to take the Red Cross Babysitting course provided by the school. Future details will be in the school newsletter. Help is needed assisting the instructor with set-up and management of attendees. There will be a cost to each student for the CPR certification course.

CHRISTMAS BAZAAR
The Christmas Bazaar is an all-day event that provides a great shopping experience. Christmas joy and opportunity for our children to visit Santa. Volunteers are needed to help with the Bake Sale, making baskets for the raffle, serving in the kitchen, staging our Santa, vendor assistance, and set-up and clean up. Plan ahead to bake your best for the Bake Sale, and Food Prep for the kitchen is a prior date as well. This is the main PTO Fundraiser for the year; we need MANY volunteers for its success.
DIRECTORY
Every person that pays the $5 PTO dues at the beginning of the year receives the PTO directory, usually around November of the school year, with contact information for each student in each classroom, per the parents’ permission.

FAMILY DINING OUT NIGHTS
Once a month, we arrange for a local restaurant/business to host our school for socializing and fundraising. This also provides an opportunity for our school to interact with the community by providing support to the local economy. Often, the restaurants will donate a percentage of the overall sales to our St. Helen PTO. Volunteers are needed to help publicize, support, and occasionally help with activities at the event.

FATHER/DAUGHTER AND MOTHER/SON DANCE
This is a relatively new opportunity to provide a desired service for our families and create everlasting memories. This will be dances for the 3rd through 6th grade students. Both dances are usually held on either the same weekend or the same night, depending on location availability and volunteers. We need a team to help head this up. Volunteers will also be needed for set-up, event details, and clean up.

FIELD DAY
Field Day is a fun day of activities and games for Preschool-7th grade. Field Day is held in late May, and volunteers are needed to help with games, set-up, water distribution, escorting students to and from various activities, and clean up. This particular activity requires MANY volunteers and is a very fun way to end the school year with your student!

GRANDPARENTS DAY
Grandparent’s Day has become a favored tradition at St. Helen over the years, and is a wonderful way to celebrate our grandparents and those adults that are like grandparents to our children. Volunteers are needed to help with set-up, photography, able-assisting, serving, and clean up.

RECYCLING PROGRAM
Please send in all old cell phones and ink cartridges to the recycling box located outside the school office. Volunteers are needed to organize items received and recycle then to the necessary locations.

SWEATSHIRT SALE
The sweatshirts offered during this sale are the official sweatshirts to be worn with the school uniforms. This sale will be held at least twice a year, but may be offered more per the chairs’ discretion. Volunteers may be needed to help with orders and distribution.

TEACHER APPRECIATION DAYS
Each trimester, the PTO will provide a luncheon and/or treat for our faculty. A sign-up form for food donations and volunteers (assist with set-up and clean up) will be emailed to all parents a couple of weeks before each luncheon.

TRUNK-OR-TREAT
The PTO partners with Booster Club to host this event. Volunteers are encouraged to decorate their automobiles in Halloween style. Following the Trunk-or-Treat, and weather-permitting, families will enjoy a bonfire on the Hill (soccer fields). The event is held on the Saturday closest to All Saints/All Souls’ Day.

USED UNIFORM SALE
The Used Uniform Sale is held in the Fall and the Spring and is a great way for parents to purchase uniforms at a reduced price. Volunteers are needed to help set up for the sale, sort and sell used uniforms as they are brought to the sale, and put the unsold uniforms away.
